I started this blog as a requirement for my Digital Art class. Though I know that blogging in some way will be a beneficial skill I can't help but feel nervous. Maybe it's because I'm not used to expressing my thoughts in this manner, but then again, I'm sure not many people are. I sat here and wondered for a while what I should write about. I held it off for a couple of days, for several actually but I guess we all have to overcome these fears at some point. Right?
I started my first post with my first drawing of the semester. I haven't drawn like this since I was in high school. It's funny, I went to the Art Institute of San Diego for a year (well almost) after my military service. I didn't learn much and I definitely didn't do work like this (transitioning to civilian life is hard, needless to say, I wasn't ready for school at that time) but anyways, I find that my passion for art is reigniting again. There's something about the way a pencil feels as it slides across paper. The way the grain of the paper shaves down the lead of the pencil, how you can feel the coarsening of both materials. I don't know it's mesmerizing.
For many years now I've worked with Digital Art as my main medium. Though my drawings seemed mediocre at that time, looking back I don't think I didn't do too bad considering I had no real formal training and the majority of the things I learned I taught myself through blogs or youtube videos. I even managed to pull off a graphics design gig on the side for my previous employer. I was able to get my toes wet, some training, and got some experience under my belt.
As of right now, my thoughts are set on a digital field. I'm thinking about doing something in movie special effects but I'm not closing the door to other opportunities. I have an idea for a comic book that I'm working on, I might share a little more on that as I continue writing this blog. As I reach the end of my first post. I can't help but feel some wonderment and a little excitement for what might come out of this blogging journey.
